Bravura Nova Scotia offers Scholarships, Bursaries, Faculty Fellowships, and Partner Support through our Endowments and other restricted funds.

Bravura Nova Scotia Ella Aines Endowment
In 2004 a bequest of $10,000 was received.
Each year, $100 Cash Prizes are awarded to a piano and a string student.

Bravura Nova Scotia Anonymous #1 Endowment
In 2018 an anonymous donor began funding an endowment. It is currently accumulating and will become active when it reaches its $10,000 goal.

Bravura Nova Scotia Angus Campbell – Stephen Sondheim Endowment
In 2016 Mr. Campbell started this endowment to eventually support the Campbell/Sondheim Scholarship which is presently awarded via direct donation. The endowment is currently accumulating and will become active when it reaches its $10,000 goal.

Bravura Nova Scotia Centennial Fund
To celebrate Bravura’s 100th anniversary in 2021, the organization created a $10,000 restricted fund that will be used to provide support as required.

Bravura Nova Scotia DesBrisay Family Endowment
In 1983, a donation was received with further donations over the next decade.
The Bravura Nova Scotia Ella DesBrisay Music Bursary awards $200 to a student in need, with preference given to a violin student.
The remaining investment revenue each year is used to support the Bravura Nova Scotia Annie Layton DesBrisay Discretionary Fund and the $500 Bravura Nova Scotia – Annie DesBrisay Award at the Kiwanis Festival.

Bravura Nova Scotia Mary Parker Freeman Endowment
In 1985 a donation was received in her memory from a relative in New Zealand.
A $100 Cash Prize is awarded to a cello player.

Bravura Nova Scotia Elizabeth “Bee” Huxtable Endowment
The fund was established in April 2018 by her daughter Antonia Mahon.
This endowment supports a $500 Faculty Fellowship and a $500 Senior Music Student Scholarship.

Bravura Nova Scotia Janet Leffek Endowment
In 2021 the Nova Scotia Registered Music Teachers’ Association Scholarship Trust transferred the stewardship of this endowment to Bravura Nova Scotia.
The endowment funds an annual competition for a teacher of the NSRMTA or a student of a member of the NSRMTA.

Bravura Nova Scotia Sheila Piercey Endowment
In 2015 Sheila created this endowment which provides for six awards of $50 each that are awarded annually. After Sheila’s death in 2020, a major donation was made by her niece Brenda Ploeg.

Bravura Nova Scotia Elsie Taylor Endowment
In 1946 Elsie Taylor bequeathed $2,000 to the Alumni Association.
Each year a scholarship has been awarded, gradually increasing from $75 to $300.

Bravura Nova Scotia Portia White Endowment
The endowment was established in June 2021 by a $50,000 grant from the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage to honour the memory of Portia White, Canada’s first Black classical singer to obtain international fame.
Bravura Nova Scotia would like to raise a further $50,000.
This endowment will fund the Portia White Scholarship for a voice student.

Bravura Nova Scotia John Yogis Musical Theatre Endowment
In November 2021, retired Dalhousie University law professor and longstanding musical supporter John Yogis passed away. An endowment was begun in his honour.

Carol von Syberg EndowmentCarol von Syberg was a member of the MCPA Piano Department from 1954 to 2019. A scholarship of $300 in her name is awarded annually to a senior piano student.

Bravura Nova Scotia Edie Hancock Fellowship – in memory of Pat Wyman
In 2017 Edie Hancock established a fund to provide a professional development fellowship in memory of long-time faculty member Pat Wyman.

Bravura Nova Scotia Ken and Gloria Mader Professional Development Fellowships
The Maders were always supportive of our organization and donated monies to create a professional fellowship.
