Join us for an evening with Lucy Zhang, a young pianist whose remarkable talents have been recognized and celebrated both nationally and internationally. Lucy is the recipient of the 2023 Raymond Simpson Award from the Nova Scotia Talent Trust and has been a national finalist at the Federation of Canadian Music Festivals. Her accolades also include several scholarships and distinguished prizes in piano solo at the Steinway & Sons National Youth Piano Competition in China and in the China Conservatory of Music’s Top Talent Competition.

This concert will showcase Lucy's profound connection to the piano repertoire. The program reflects the vast expressive range of the piano, from the structured elegance of Bach's "Prelude and Fugue XV in G major" to the rich romanticism of Chopin's "Andante spianato and Grande Polonaise Brilliante" and the spirited energy of his "Scherzo No. 1, Op. 20." Contrasting these are the playful classicism of Haydn's "Sonata in C Major" and the impressionistic hues of Debussy's "Estampes," which demonstrate the instrument's capacity to capture both subtle nuances and vibrant colors. The inclusion of Liebermann's modern "Gargoyles" adds a contemporary edge to the program.

Under the tutelage of Lynn Stodola, Lucy's performance, characterized by technical skill and emotional depth, breathes life into these compositions with unique clarity and sensitivity. As she prepares to further her musical education in New York City, this recital is not only a celebration of her current achievements but also a testament to the enduring power and beauty of piano music.
