How to Apply

Bravura Nova Scotia provides almost 50 student awards annually, most of which do not require an application.  There are exceptions, however, so please check below.

Faculty awards require applications.

MCPA Students

The awards Bravura Nova Scotia provides for MCPA students are of two types, general and auditioned.

Most of Bravura Nova Scotia awards are general and do not require an application; students will be nominated for these prizes and scholarships by their teachers.  Decisions of who will receive these awards are made by the Student Awards Committee.

Two Bravura Nova Scotia awards for MCPA students are auditioned, and these do require an application; they are the Carol von Syberg Piano Scholarship and the Angus Campbell—Stephen Sondheim Musical Theatre Scholarship.  Please check with your teacher or the Conservatory Front Desk staff for details.  Decisions of who will receive these two awards are made by the Student Awards Committee on the advice of the members of the Auditions Panel.

Bursaries are available for students in financial need.  Please speak in confidence with the Front Desk staff.  Bursary recipients are chosen by a joint Conservatory and Bravura Nova Scotia bursary committee.

Conservatory Nova Scotia Association Students

Please ask your teacher about the availability of awards.  Applications are not required from students; you will be nominated by your teacher. The recipients of all awards are decided by the CNS Awards Committee.

Kiwanis Festival Participants

Bravura Nova Scotia offers awards in five different categories.  All Festival participants are eligible to be considered for awards in their areas.  Applications are not required.  The recipients will be selected by the Kiwanis Festival Awards Committee in consultation with the adjudicator(s).  Please visit www.hfxmusicfest.com for further details.

The Janet Leffek Endowment – open to NSRMTA Teachers

In 2021, Bravura Nova Scotia assumed the stewardship of this endowment from the Nova Scotia Registered Music Teachers’ Association Scholarship Trust.  The endowment funds an annual competition for a Nova Scotia Registered Music Teachers’ Association teacher in the first fifteen years of their career.  In the future the award may also be open to students of NSRMTA members.  The competition is organized by the NSRMTA and a committee chooses the recipient(s).  Please visit www.nsrmta.ca.
